Retiring to Lawrence County

The Senior Citizens Center is one facility which offers so much to this area and is non-hospital affiliated. It is a great meeting
place for the retired community to come together and enjoy the luxuries of retirement.
The Senior AIDES Program provides part-time employment for men and women 55 years of age or older who
have limited incomes. Participants are assigned to positions that revitalize and enhance their job skills while supporting local non-profit and governmental agencies. In 2001-2002, the program employed 69 Senior Aides and served 56 host agencies. In addition, the Senior AIDES program placed 11 Senior Aides in unsubsidized employment.
There is an assortment of housing options to choose from when retirement approaches. In addition to the Nursing Center,
assisted living at the Heritage Manner offers security to those who need just a little more care. In addition, Lawrence County offers the best healthcare and a variety of activities and programs to meet your individual needs.
The Lawrence County Nursing Center is one of the top ten nursing homes in the state which provides quality care. The
facility provides 60 beds and a warm, dedicated staff who meet the needs of every patient. A full time recreation therapist
plans daily activities and special programs which include hosting guest bands, church services, magic shows and
Mardi Gras parades. The Lawrence County Nursing Center is also medicare and medicaid certified.
Traveling outside of Lawrence County is easy and is located very close to many different locations here in Mississippi.

Retirement in Lawrence County also means opportunities for continuing education. The Institute for Learning in Retirement is a program that offers much to the retired.
The Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) / Wesson Campus
Witnesses it's fifth consecutive record enrollment in 2000-2001 with 170 members.
Hosted 10 luncheon lectures and socials.
Scheduled 14 special interest classes on topics such as computer applications, gardening, and Southern Culture.
Hosted six one-day trips to destinations such as Jackson, Hattiesburg, and St. Francisville, LA and scheduled 4 overnight trips.
The Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) / Natchez Campus
Registered 125 members.
Participated in trips to Russell C. Davis Planetarium, in Jackson; Frogmore Plantation, in Ferriday, LA; Highland Games in Jackson, LA; and overnight birding in Cameron,LA.
Sponsored several workshops such as Infant, Child, and Adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation class and first aid.
Held a "Book Talk" by Joan McLemore.
Hosted several lectures and special interest classes were held during the year.
